Our holiday home is located in the Aisne valley, around 15 km to the east of Durbuy. The holiday home nestles in the heart of the small village of Roche-à-Frêne. The path at the edge of the house leads directly into an undergrowth.
In the opposite direction, a path below the lodge runs along remarkable poudingue rocks (alluvial rock). This is where the name of this place comes from, the rock of Roche-à-Frêne, known as the Black Rock or the Devil’s Rock.
Walks and hikes on foot or by bike are undoubtedly one of the best ways to discover this green and hilly region. Here is full of small streams that lead you to large plains covered with forests that have such magnificent panoramas. The starting point for several walks/hikes is directly accessible on foot from the residence.
There are other charming villages nearby such as Mormont, Deux-Rys, Villers-Sainte-Gertrude, Heyd, etc…
We are however not very far from more “classic” destinations, with important tourist centres such as Durbuy, La Roche-en-Ardenne and the Baraque de Fraiture with its beautiful nature. About 20 km away, you cannot help but notice the Plateau des Tailles, one of the highest points in Belgium, with its Fens and its nature reserve.
The name of Durbuy is most often associated with alleys, craftsmen, restaurants or sports activities. Durbuy gets the name of “city” from the Middle Ages; the locality is appreciated today by its shops or even in front of a well-stocked dish.
